Each summer, OBE’s Summer League internship program welcomes a cohort of bright, curious, and brave interns who dive headfirst into the fast-paced world of experiential marketing. This year’s group has brought energy, creativity, and a fresh perspective to every brainstorm, brief, and build—from shadowing on-site at major client events to contributing ideas that push our work forward.
In celebration of National Intern Day, we're spotlighting our interns: what inspires them, what they’ve learned, and the moments they’ll carry forward from their OBE experience.
Meet Anchi Wu, a Cornell University student in the second year of her master’s program with a concentration in Connective Media.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about designing experiences that allow people to feel included and safe to express themselves in both offline and digital spaces. When designing these experiences, I like to find clues that serve as design guidelines by understanding the motivations behind how people behave in certain ways.
Do you have an embarrassing moment you'd like to share? What did you learn from it?
One of the most embarrassing moments happened during my driving test. I was too nervous and accidentally turned at the wrong intersection too early, it was supposed to be the next one. Although I realized my mistake immediately, my mind went completely blank, and I ended up failing the test. What I learned from this experience includes two things, which can apply to driving or any situation in life. First, even if you take the wrong turn, it is important to stay calm and then figure out a plan B. Second, when facing something unfamiliar, be well-prepared to avoid mistakes. (Now, I always go through the map beforehand if I’m driving to a new destination.)
What has challenged you most during your internship—and how did you grow from it?
One of the biggest challenges during my internship was finding the right balance between creativity and feasibility. Early on, I often found myself overthinking and trying to ensure every idea would satisfy all stakeholders and aiming for perfection at the start. Through the open and supportive environment at OBE, I realized that my previous tendency was limiting and could suppress potentially valuable ideas. Through this experience, I grew by learning to share my ideas more openly, even if they weren’t perfect. While I still reflect critically, I’ve learned not to let internal debates prevent me from contributing creatively.
Meet Gabe Boyd, a 2024 Stanford University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in English.
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about a lot of things: enjoying the outdoors, playing volleyball, spending time with my friends and family, and exploring the hidden gems of LA. In my career, I’m passionate about bringing live events to life and seeing all the hard work, dedication, and attention to detail that allow people to be present in a space with one another.
Do you have a favorite memory from being onsite at the Nike After Dark Tour LA?
Watching Sofia Camacho (Nike After Dark Tour LA 1st place finisher) turn the corner and cross the finish line with a huge smile was such a highlight of the event for me! Understanding that every racer put so much effort into the half marathon brought me so much joy, and to be a part of an event of that magnitude was majestic!
How has this experience changed the way you think about your career path?
Working with OBE has opened my eyes to the fast-paced and constantly evolving world of events. I love the cyclical nature of the industry and the variety it offers. During my internship, I’ve already seen so much come to life, from food festivals to half marathons. I thrive in dynamic environments and feel fortunate to have found a place and a team that truly embraces the spirit of this industry.
Meet Kyle del Rosario, a 2025 California State University Long Beach graduate with a bachelor’s degree in industrial design.
What are you passionate about?
I have a deep passion for music, and I enjoy spending my downtime or long commutes exploring emerging artists across a variety of genres. I love curating playlists for different moods or scenarios with the music I discover. I also spend a bit too much on live concerts and festivals each year, but it’s always worth it because of my appreciation for live music. Although I didn’t grow up playing an instrument, I hope to learn one someday.
Do you have an embarrassing moment you'd like to share? What did you learn from it?
In third grade, we were playing Guess Who in class during a lesson about religion. My teacher said, “This person is loving and caring.” Instantly, I put my hand up and confidently said, “You!” However, everyone started laughing but I had no idea why. Someone then revealed that she previously said, “This person is more than a thousand years old” because she was talking about Jesus. I’d missed that crucial clue altogether because I wasn’t listening and accidentally offended her. This embarrassing moment taught me the importance of paying attention and that I shouldn’t jump to conclusions without fully understanding the story or situation.
Do you have a favorite memory from being onsite at EEEEEATSCON LA?
One of my favorite memories from being onsite at EEEEEATSCON LA was assisting with the DashPass installation, where I had the creative freedom to decorate the site with fruit baskets and home goods. I enjoyed observing the process of the event coming together and seeing attendees engage with the experience. I also had the opportunity to try a variety of delicious food and experience the vibrant atmosphere that EEEEEATSCON LA had to offer! Overall, being onsite for this event was an unforgettable experience that I learned a lot from as an intern.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to next year’s interns?
A piece of advice I’d give to next year’s interns is to ask questions on anything you are curious about. Going into this internship I thought that I knew a good amount of information and skills that I learned from university, but I quickly realized there is still so much more to know. Everyone at OBE is willing to help you grow and progress in your position, so I’ve learned so many new creative skills and have gotten a much better understanding about this field of experiential marketing from asking questions whether I’m in office or onsite. I’ve learned so much within the last couple months, and I’m excited to see more personal growth as I continue in my career.
